Managing and Adding Files in Canvas

Managing and Adding Files in Canvas

Although we will not cover all aspects of managing files here because they are covered so well in the Canvas Instructor Guides, here are a few of the most-commonly asked questions and their answers.

How do I organize my files in Canvas?

Files are organized in much the same way as other tools you are used to, such as Word and email. It is worth the effort to create some logically-names folders and then move the files into them.

Organize your files by type (.doc, .ppt, images, etc., or by course content - Week 1, Week 2, or Study guides, discussions, etc.--whatever makes sense for you and your course!)

How do I add a file in Canvas?

The easiest way to do this is "Drag and Drop." Simply open the list of files where the file you want is located. (Don't open the file itself.) Use your left mouse button to click (once) on the name of the file. Hold the left mouse button down and dra-a-a-ag the file over into the Canvas files. Then let mousie go. That's it!
