Student Accessibility Services (SAS)
Northwest Vista College is dedicated to creating opportunities for all students. Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is committed to providing students with disabilities access to quality education by providing reasonable course accommodations.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for accessibility-related services, students must have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act Links to an external site. of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Under the ADA and Section 504, a person has a disability if they have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities (walking, standing, seeing, speaking, hearing, etc.).
Reasonable course accommodations are designed to help level the playing field for students with disabilities. Accommodations should not alter essential course requirements nor lower academic standards. Examples include extended time for testing, use of an audio recording device for note-taking, and preferential seating in class.
What's my role?
As an instructor, your role is to ensure that students who have completed the accommodation process receive the accommodations described in their letter of accommodation. Student Accessibility Services will email you the letter through Guardian. Follow the Steps to Access Letters in Guardian

Letters of accommodation and all disability-related information are strictly confidential. After receiving the letter, if you have questions about the accommodations listed, please contact SAS or discuss with the student in private.
Students must complete a Request for Accommodations Links to an external site. each semester and submit appropriate documentation in order to receive accommodations. You are not obligated to provide accommodations to a student who self-identifies as having a specific need, but has yet to officially request accommodations via SAS.
