Successful Online Student Characteristics
Some of the best ways to be successful in an online course are these:
- Motivate yourself to sit in front of your computer just as you would in a classroom or remote session.
- Some people find it's helpful to remember that you paid to be here, so be sure to get your money's worth.
- You're here to learn, not just to get a grade.
- Self-awareness - Be aware of your study habits and make changes when necessary.
- If you need help with this, ask your instructors; they have all been college students, too!
- Manage and organize your time - Don't put off for tomorrow what you should do today.
- Take advantage of the calendar, your syllabus, your To-Do list, course Modules, and class announcements to help ensure you stay on track and don't miss any course material or activities.
- Keep an open mind - Online classes are as demanding as face-to-face classes or remote learning.
- Focus - Keep distractions in your learning environment to a minimum - after all - you are in class!
- Communicate! Although you will be working independently most of the time in an online class, that doesn't mean that learning online has to be lonely. Your instructor will likely create interactive activities such as discussions or peer reviewed assignments.
- You can also take the initiative to contact others in your class by using the Canvas Inbox, groups, and discussions. Many new friendships form in online classes, so don't hesitate to communicate with each other!
