Top 10 Signs to look for when deciding how credible a website is:
- Does it look objective and factual or biased and opinionated?
- Is it using information to teach you something, or using information to sell you something?
- Is it loaded with ads that look like they are for cheesy products?
- Are there too many grammar, spelling and formatting errors?
- Do the links actually work, or are they all old or broken?
- Has the website been updated recently or does it seem abandoned?
- Is the site sponsored by (or does it have links to) reputable organizations?
- Are there references, and if so, are those sources reputable.
- Do you recognize any information that you already know is true?
- Is it a .edu site? Those have to be monitored and updated by schools, so they are usually good.
