Navigation in Canvas

Depending on how you access your course from ACES, you will first see either the Canvas Dashboard or a particular course you are enrolled in. The following information will outline what you will experience in either place.

 

When first entering Canvas, you may see a view that includes the Global Navigation Links to an external site. [1], Dashboard Links to an external site. [2], and Sidebar Links to an external site. [3]. The Global Navigation will remain in all views of Canvas, while the Dashboard and Sidebar will not.

Change Dashboard View

The Dashboard offers several views depending on your preference. The Dashboard defaults to the course card view [1], which displays course cards Links to an external site. for all your favorite courses. The Dashboard also supports List View Links to an external site. [2], which displays course items in an agenda (to-do list) view. To help manage Canvas activity, the Dashboard also supports the Global Activity Stream Links to an external site. [3], which shows recent activity for all your Canvas courses.

To change your Dashboard view, click the Options menu and select your preferred viewing option.

 

Your Course Home Page Links to an external site. includes the Course Navigation Menu [1], which contains links to the various course tools and resources in your course. (NOTE: A Course Navigation Menu will most likely change from course to course.) Your course also includes the Content Area [2] which is where course content will reside, and the Sidebar [3] where you will find up-to-date information pertaining to your course.
