The Canvas inbox looks a lot like email; however, it is entirely within Canvas. It is an internal messaging system.

Canvas Video Guide:
Inbox messages are private communications between instructor and student(s) or between student and student(s).
The Canvas system knows who you are affiliated with because you share one or more courses. When composing a new message, you choose the course you have in common and simply start typing the name of intended recipient. For example:
Inbox Message to One Individual
Inbox Message to All Students in a Class
NOTE: All official college-related and class-related correspondence between faculty and students should occur either in Canvas or in the ACES email accounts. Please discourage students (and faculty) from using personal email accounts.
Messages from previous classes and semesters can be archived (hidden) without being deleted.
