 Discussions

Video: 3:47

Discussions are one of the most commonly-used tools in web-enhanced classes. In Canvas, discussions can include not only text, but also video, images, audio, links, and attachments. Discussions can be graded or non-graded, dated or not, and can be set up as prerequisites to other course content.

Consider using discussions to:

  • Allow students to introduce themselves at the beginning of a class
  • Help students start thinking about an upcoming assignment or class discussion
  • Follow-up on a conversation or questions that began in a face-to-face classroom
  • Develop or assess student comprehension of important points made in class
  • Brainstorm different approaches to a problem
  • Create a general Q&A forum for the class
