Welcome!
We will explain available options to find captioned videos for your course content and ways to add captioning. A study conducted in 2016 by Oregon State University and 3Play Media Links to an external site., shows how captions and transcripts can help all students, not just students with disabilities.
Video Captioning Options
- Canvas - For videos created in Canvas or uploaded video files, Canvas offers a captioning interface to add captions. For more information, see the Canvas Guides Add Captions page.
- Library - When adding library multimedia content, check with your librarian to see if the library owns a captioned video or it is part of a media database that offers captions. The UW Bothell Streaming Video LibGuide Links to an external site., has information on available resources. There are services such as Kanopy Links to an external site., for example, a database of streaming documentaries and featured films and offers many videos that are already captioned. If the video you select is not captioned, your librarian can submit a request to add the film to captioning queue. Those captions will be available for all viewers of the video.
- Accomodations - Captioning due to an accomodations request - These requests are processed via the accomodation office at your campus. You may be asked to provide discs or link locations of videos being used.
