Speech Workshops

The Speech Program offers workshops each semester that focus on a variety of important communication-related topics such as: conquering speech anxiety, organizing your speech, interpersonal skills, effective delivery practices, conflict management, and interviewing skills. These workshops are offered face-to-face, but also have the option for virtual attendance if you aren't able to show up in-person. Scholarships

The Speech Program (in conjunction with some other programs in our ARTS department) offers some great scholarships that are split into two separate basic types: academic- and service-based. Please refer to this Scholarship Grid to see if you are interested in or are eligible for any of them.

SpeakOUT

Towards the end of each semester, the Speech Program hosts an in-person event called SpeakOUT that has students from our speech classes compete against one another for a chance at earning scholarship money. Completely voluntary, you may present either an informative or persuasive speech and if you make it to the final round, you are guaranteed to earn money, with a higher placing equaling more money earned. If you are interested then please notify me, your instructor, and we'll work on getting you prepared :)

Speech Team

Coached by the highly-decorated Justin Blacklock, our nationally-ranked speech team invites you to join if you have a passion for competing against other colleges and universities in public speaking and/or interpretation events. Students who compete will be eligible for speech scholarship awards, as well as having the chance to place and win at tournaments.
